What is Montessori?

Montessori is an educational method developed by Dr. Maria Montessori that honours each child’s natural curiosity, creativity, and ability to learn. Grounded in scientific observation, this approach creates an environment where children thrive by:

  • Exploring at Their Own Pace: Classrooms are arranged with accessible materials and clearly defined areas, enabling children to choose activities that match their interests and developmental stage.
  • Learning Through Discovery: Hands-on, sensorial materials help children move from concrete experiences to abstract understanding across subjects.
  • Building Independence: Instead of direct instruction, guides present lessons when a child shows readiness and then step back to let independent work foster concentration and self-discipline.
  • Fostering Community: Mixed-age classrooms encourage peer mentoring, social collaboration, and respect for one another’s differences.
  • Honouring the Whole Child: Emotional, social, physical, and cognitive growth are equally valued, creating confident, compassionate learners ready for lifelong discovery.

By blending freedom with structure, Montessori provides a balanced framework where children develop academic skills alongside self-confidence and a love of learning.
